LACONIA – TennisGolf is what it sounds like, and it’s coming to Laconia on Saturday, July 27th to raise funds for the statewide youth organization Advantage Kids. Players will use tennis racquets to hit tennis balls into the nine holes at Tavern 27 in Laconia while raising money for the free tennis lessons, coding instruction, and lifeskills that Advantage Kids provides.
“I think it’s sort of like croquet,” event organizer Brittany Boles said of TennisGolf. “There’s really no practicing for it, no training. It’s just whacking tennis balls around on the course, and it’s a ton of fun! We play ‘best ball,’ so the pressure is off.”
The event starts at 9am and includes lunch at noon. A bloody mary bar and full cocktail list are available all day for the adults while kids play tennis and other games. Local businesses are sponsoring holes, tees, and silent auction items.
“Grappone Automotive Group is our major sponsor,” Boles said. “They’re re-launching their commercial leasing department, which is a great thing for local builders, pavers, and the like. Grappone is excited to be bringing up vehicles that the kids can touch and play in as well as helping us get visibility for this event. Thanks to them, this is going to be a huge deal!”
Advantage Kids was founded in 2012 by Gilmanton’s Bob Ronstadt with the aim of bringing tennis instruction to underserved children in the Lakes Region. Since then, the organization has grown to serve one thousand kids across the state, including partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs.
“Tennis gives kids an advantage in life,” Ronstadt said, “because it’s about more than the game. It’s about integrity and honesty. It gets kids moving and keeps them motivated. Tennis is a lifelong game.”
Cultivating life skills is important to Advantage Kids. At the TennisGolf event, they will be awarding children from each of their programs with the John J. Donovan Jr. Memorial Award, which honors kids who demonstrate qualities like compassion, integrity, and loyalty.
The event is open to the public, though space for teams is limited. Teams of 4-5 people can register themselves online at AdvantageKids.net/tennisgolf or click through to sponsor the event on the bottom of that page. TennisGolf is the third annual fundraiser for Advantage Kids, a statewide youth organization based in Gilford. It takes place on Saturday, July 27 at Tavern 27 in Laconia from 9am – 1pm.
